ABOUT SOPHROLOGY

WHAT IS SOPHROLOGY?

Sophrology is a method created in 1960 by the neuropsychiatrist, Alfonso Caycedo. The Sophrology techniques act on both the body and mind which are intimately connected. It can help you to release tensions, to relax both your body and mind and bring you towards a state of  well-being. Its goal is to give you tools that you can use on a daily basis in complete autonomy to cope with challenges and uncertainties in life. 

Sophrology relies on 3 essential tools: breathing , dynamic relaxation (muscular relaxation) and visualisation

BREATHING

There are different breaths for different situations: to relax, to calm both your mind and body, to reduce the stress, to focus or, on the contrary, to bring energy.

DYNAMIC RELAXATION

Gentle physical exercises to release physical and/or psychic tensions.

VISUALISATION

This consists of mentally projecting images that will act on our consciousness and our bodily sensations.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Sophrology is for everyone who wishes to learn how to manage their stress and find a better balance and quality of life. It does not require any specific physical or intellectual ability. It is for all ages, from 7 years old onwards.

We can practice Sophrology in different areas: professional, personal, therapeutic or educational.

WHAT SOPHROLOGY ISN'T

RELAXATION

This is one of sophrology techniques but is not an end in itself. Relaxation is passive and does not require self-awareness but simply letting go.

HYPNOSIS

Sophrology is not inductive, on the contrary this method will develop autonomy and active participation.

YOGA / SPORT

Sophrology focuses in part on the body but there are no special postures and does not require any particular physical arrangement. Sophrology is not related to any belief.

MAGIC

Practices require voluntary and methodical training. The techniques are based on scientific research.

MASSAGE

There is no physical contact between the Sophrologist and the patient.

SESSIONS

ONE ON ONE

The first session starts with an in-depth conversation about your situation and your needs. This conversation allows me to know more about you and to establish a personalised protocol.

This session is 1h long and ends with a deep relaxation practice. 

The following sessions always start with a conversation to discuss the period since the previous session and your current state, physical and psychological. The different techniques and/or exercises are then practiced according to the protocol.

These sessions are 45 minutes long.

The sessions are done sitting, standing or lying down. In Sophrology we prefer the seated or standing positions as they are easy to reproduce on a daily basis: at work, by car, in transport … Each session ends with a discussion of your thoughts or state of mind related to the exercises you just did.

Each one-on-one session is unique as it is personalized according to your need.

    • Personalized sessions at the practice (IJBurg, Amsterdam) or online
    • For everyone from 7 years old
    • First session duration: 1h // Following sessions: 45 minutes
    • Cost one-on-one session for adults or children: 75€ (TVA 21% included), same price for the first session.
    • In case of cancellation, thank you for notifying me at least 24 hours in advance. Any session not canceled 24 hours in advance, will be charged in its entirety. 
GROUP SESSION

Sophrology is a good practice for group sessions. Each session includes a moment of conversation and reflection between the group from the period since the last session, a practice of relaxation and/or meditation focused around a theme according to the needs of the group (stress, sleep, memory, concentration, …).

Each session ends with a moment of sharing and exchange on the lived experience, with an open mind and without judgment.

    • Group from 5 to 15 people
    • Duration of a session: 1h
  • Cost of a group session: 17,50€ per person (TVA 21% included)
BUSINESS SESSION

Sophrology has its place in a company. It can be offered to employees as a real support to develop your skills and performances.

It can be associated with a psychosocial risks prevention approach (stress, workplace violence: moral and sexual harassment, burnout, addictions, etc.) and to improve the quality of life at work.

ABOUT ME

HÉLÈNE JONETTE

I am of French origin and have lived in Amsterdam for more than 10 years. By working in a corporate job, I became aware that our demanding world can be overwhelming, noisy, full of too many distractions, which so easily enables us to lose the connection between what we feel internally and what we see and experience externally. I was looking for something more, something else, that could help others and me. That’s how I found Sophrology and its intention to re-connect that disconnection between the inner and outer selves/thoughts/experiences.

Sophrology is a philosophy of life that I am happily sharing with people. It gives participants practical tools and strategies that they need to ensure they have the energy, focus and clarity to feel better in their lives and to enable them to be at their best when they most need to be.
It is an exciting practice where listening and caring are at the centre of the relationship.

Since 2020, I am specialized in birth preparation using Sophrology to support expectant mums during pregnancy to lower stress levels and prepare for motherhood.
